Director of the Seismic Research Centre at the University of the West Indies, Dr. Richard Robertson has confirmed that there was an eruption of the Kick em Jenny underwater volcano this morning.
Giving a statement on the increased activity at the volcano, which is located some four miles north of Grenada, Dr. Robertson said the eruption occurred at about 1:25 this morning.
He said the elevated activity at the underwater volcano is continuing and the situation is being monitored by the Seismic Unit.
Dr. Robertson said the sector that would be affected most by this activity is shipping, and alerts are being issued for maritime stakeholders.
He said persons should not be unduly concerned about a tsunami at this moment
