The large volume of sargassum seaweed which has been washing up on this country’s shores has provided some benefits for the marine ecosystem.
Senior Fisheries Officer Chris Isaacs said the impact of the seaweed has not been completely negative.
Speaking on NBC’s Face to Face Programme on Tuesday, Mr. Isaacs said the sargassum seaweed can act as a protected area for some species of marine life.
A Task Force made up of representatives from various Government entities, has been established here to address challenges posed by the appearances of large volumes of seaweed on some beaches.
