Vincentians were jolted out of their normal routine today, by a series of earth tremors which occurred mainly during the morning period.
The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) confirmed that five earthquakes were felt in St. Vincent and the Grenadines today.
According to a preliminary report from the Seismic Research Center of the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, Trinidad, the first earthquake was felt at 7:01 am, measuring 5.7 on the magnitude scale, the second at 11:16 am, with a strength of 6.4, the third at 11:29 am measuring 4.1. the fourth at 11:36 am, measuring 5.3 and the final one at 12:23pm, measuring 3.8 on the magnitude scale.
Director of NEMO, Howie Prince said the tremors were felt in St Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados and in St Lucia.
Mr. Prince said there was no threat of a Tsunami from the tremors and he noted that NEMO had not received any report of damage from the earthquakes.
