The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment is taking a proactive approach to preventing a possible outbreak of the zika virus in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The zika virus has caused a health scare in Brazil, and one case has already been recorded in the Dominican Republic.
It is spread by the bite of the Aedes Egypti mosquito.
The National Epidemiologist in the Ministry of Health – Dr. Rosmond Adams says the ministry of is continuing its sustained vector control program that began during last year’s chikungunya outbreak.
Dr. Adams says there are simple measures which the public can take to help in the fight against vector borne diseases like the zika virus.
The symptoms of the zika virus include severe fever, joint and muscle pain, headaches, rashes and conjunctivitis.
