Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves will travel to Rome on Thursday for a meeting of the Food and Agriculture Organization – FAO.
The FAO will recognize St Vincent and the Grenadines for its work on reducing poverty.
The country is one of only six Caribbean nations to have attained the millennium development goals on hunger.
Speaking at a news conference today, the Prime Minister said his administration had done a remarkable job at slashing indigence and those efforts are now being recognized around the world.
Dr. Gonsalves acknowledged that poverty still exists in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
He added that his administration was working to ensure that those people whose economic conditions have improved do not fall back into poverty.
