Director of Trade, Cuthbert Knights says the free movement of services in the region is a critical to the success of the Caricom Single Market and Economy.
Mr. Knights made the point during NBC’s Face to Face programme on Thursday, as the Ministry prepares to observe Services Week from May 18th to 22nd, under the theme ”Building Capacity in Trade in Services”
He said policy makers in the region view the service industry as being very important to national development, and is taking steps to ensure the smooth movement of services.
As part of this thrust, CARICOM has mandated the establishment of a “coalition of service industry” in an effort to ensure that there are standards and regulations.
And, Trade Officer Okolo John-Patrick said on a local level, the Government has been working with the Coalition of Service Industries to ensure that regulations are in place for the services sector.
