The Open Campus in St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be hosting the launch of The UWI Open Campus Development Project this week as part of its objectives and targets under its current strategic plan for 2012-2017.
The project will be launched on Thursday at 9:00 am at its main site location in Kingstown.
The project is sponsored by national, regional and international donor organizations, including the Governments of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Saint Lucia, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Government of Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Development (DFATD) Strengthening Distance Education in the Caribbean (SDEC) project.
The project involves the development of UWI Open Campus Sites in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Saint Lucia to enhance the physical facilities of the Open Campus, while developing its academic programming and building institutional capacity in order to strengthen the delivery of distance education for the social and economic development of the Caribbean region.
Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, will be the main speaker at the event.
Other speakers will include, His Excellency Richard Hanley, High Commissioner of Canada to Barbados and the OECS, Michelle Cross Fenty, Director of Projects, CDB and Dr. Luz Longsworth, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal (Ag) of The UWI Open Campus. Head of Open Campus St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Mrs. Deborah Dalrymple, will chair the event.
