As part of efforts to maintain the vegetable production in the Fancy community, a vegetable nursery will be officially opened tomorrow at the Fancy Primary School.
President of the recently formed Fancy Vegetable Farmers Co-operative (FAVFCO) group, Marsha Williams, says vegetable production in Fancy has been plagued in the past by the unavailability of planting materials due mainly to lack of a vegetable seedling nursery facility in the area.
She says this deficiency has led to little and sometimes no production of vegetables at particular periods of the year
FAVFCO was established through a needs assessment done during an Agricultural Training Workshop where the farmers voted unanimously for the vegetable seedling nursery.
The group consists of 25 farmers and has as its main objective: to provide a wide variety of seedlings to farmers at affordable prices, throughout the year.
Tomorrow’s launching ceremony begins at 2:30pm with addresses from the Parliamentary Representative for the area Montgomery Daniel, Minister of National Mobilization, Frederick Stevenson and Minister of Agriculture, Saboto Caesar.
