A cheque amounting to 38-thousand Canadian dollars will be handed over to the Lions Club St. Vincent South for the construction of a home for a family affected by the December 2013 floods.
Consul General to Canada, Fitzgerald Huggins representing the SVG Ad hoc Relief Committee in Toronto compromised of leaders of Vincentian Community groups in Canada will hand over the cheque at a ceremony at the Ministry of Housing’s Conference Room from ten this morning.
The ceremony will also see the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Housing, the Lions Club of St. Vincent South, and the Canadian Non- Profit Organization.
The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has provided the land for the construction of the house which will be done by the Housing and Land Development Corporation, HLDC
The monies were raised by the Canadian Non- Profit Organization to construct a two bedroom concrete dwelling house which will be completed by August 2015, for a family affected by the December 2013 floods.
Earlier this year, the National Emergency Management Organization, NEMO and the Lions Club St. Vincent South identified Ms. Florestine Spring as the recipient of the house.
The ceremony will be addressed by Ministry of Housing, the Hon. Montgomery Daniel, Consul General to Canada Mr. Fitzgerald Huggins, a representative from the HLDC and the President of the Lions Club St. Vincent South, Lion Michael John.
