Key stakeholders in the Child Care Sector are gathered today at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown for the start of a one-week training programme, hosted by the Ministry of social Development.
The training is being held to complement the Child Care and Adoption Act, and the enhanced Juvenile Justice Reform System.
It aims to develop training materials for Child Care Practitioners and to provide tools, best practices and policy procedures for all persons who play a role in child care and protection.
Addressing the opening ceremony this morning, Minister of Social development Frederick Stephenson spoke of legislation reform measures being implemented to protect the rights of the child.
The one-week training programme is being facilitated by consultant Jacqueline Sealey-Burke who has been engaged by the Government to train Service Providers at all Child Protection Institutions.
Mrs. Sealey-Burke met with key stakeholders in the child care sector in March and is now executing the mandatory training for master trainers this week.
