Vincentian Calypsonian, Fitzroy Joseph (Brother Ebony) has etched his name in the calypso record books, doing so in style on Saturday evening at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Savannah, in Port of Spain Trinidad.
According to the Trinidad Express, Brother Ebony was crowned Humorous Calypso Monarch 2015, dethroning five-time winner The Incredible Myron B.
The Express said Brother Ebony sang in position six and patrons literally blew off the roof of the Grand Stand with laughter and applause during his performance.
Ebony’s song, “Sign Language”, was simple and effective, as he explained signs made by his friend Cassandra. His reply at the end of each verse carried a political connotation.
In the second round, competitors were allowed to sing a song of a humourous nature not limited to their repertoire, but most of them sang one of their own.
Again Brother Ebony is reported to have solicited thunderous laughter and applause from the audience with his performance of “My Wife”.
For the third time on the night the audience gave a thunderous round of applause to Brother Ebony as he was announced the winner. The second place was was awarded to Myron-B, while Bunny-B took the third spot.
