Persons wishing to import products containing genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) will soon be required to obtain a license.
That’s according to Legal Consultant to the National Bio-Safety Project, Rodrick Jones, said during Views On Issues programme aired on NBC Radio last week.
The discussion focused on ‘Modern Bio-diversity’, which has made it possible to reproduce food and plant life on a much larger scale.
Mr. Jones said this is one of several measures which will be implemented locally to better manage the importation and use of genetically modified foods in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Mr. Jones said this will ensure that the necessary assessments are conducted to avoid the importation of potentially dangerous products.
