With the increasing use of bio-technology in food production globally, efforts are being made locally to preserve a range of local crops for natural production.
National Focal Point for Bio-Safety, Marcus Richards, spoke of a number of initiatives in this regard during NBC’s Views On Issues programme on Sunday, which focused on ‘Modern Bio-diversity’.
Mr. Richards such initiatives are necessary in an effort to ensure the availability of material for natural food production.
Mr. Richards also noted that mechanisms are in place to globally, to address issues which may arise from the use of modern bio-diversity.
