Persons suffering from Diabetic Foot Ulcers are expected to get some relief with the introduction of a new drug in St. Vincent and the Grenadines within the first half of this year.
The drug – Heberprot-P – was developed by scientists at the Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Cuba as a cure for diabetic foot ulcer.
The product contains epidermal growth factor (EGF) to be applied by intra-lesional injections directly in the wound site.
Speaking at a news conference this morning, Cuban Consultant and Surgeon, Dr. Barry Ossie, said it has been found to “promote granulation and healing in advanced diabetic foot ulcers”.
Dr. Ossie said the drug has been used extensively in several countries over the past decade.
