On Friday 13th February, 2015, the Adelphi Secondary School held its annual Inter-House Public Speaking and Spelling -Bee competitions. This year, the competitions were hosted by the school’s Young Leaders group under the theme ‘Carving Our Digital Footprint, Transforming Cyberspace’. The events saw three houses competing- Bailey House, Mandeville House and Henry House. Bailey House emerged the winner for the public speaking segment as Miss Leanna Williams eloquently delivered a winning speech on the given topic” Technology has offered many benefits today via the internet yet persons fail to be good digital citizens. ‘ Other participants were Regina Andrews and Daniel Samuel from Henry and Mandeville House respectively. Bailey’s house Desrica Black and Renaldo Sutherland also took the spelling-bee title which was based on the theme’ Technology Today.”
In addition, the Young Leaders group commenced outreach programs on Friday 20th February, 2015 when they visited the New Prospect Infant School and the Biabou Methodist School respectively. The visits saw the Young Leaders sensitizing the students on how to become good digital citizens. The PowerPoint presentations used included internet safety tips and internet dangers such as hacking, identity theft, sexting, cyberbullying and the viewing of pornography. After receiving the information, students were treated with stationary supplies as gift items for engaging in discussions with the Young Leaders.
Great stuff by the Adelphi Secondary School. The topic for the Young Leaders programme is timely. I was at the launch. Continue to be the número uno rural secondary school.
