Efforts to continue the control of the Invasive Lion Fish species, are continuing in the Grenadines with the hosting of a Lion Fish Derby.
The Derby is a competition to see who can catch the most Lionfish.
The Lionfish is an invasive species, which is reported to be having a significantly negative ecological impact on native fish populations in the Caribbean waters.
The program which is being planned for late February or March, will be hosted by the Sustainable Grenadines Incorporated (SUSGREN), which continues to host a number of National Marine development programs.
Program Officer for SUSGREN, Orisha Joseph tells NBC News they are also encouraging local fisher folk to catch more of the Lion Fish and to promote its consumption as they join the national fight to control the spread of this invasive species.
