A brief opening ceremony was held at the Kingstown Preparatory School this morning, to mark the start of the 2015 Primary Schools Performing Arts Festival, PRISPAFF
Delivering remarks at the event, Drama Development Officer in the Department of Culture, Martin Quashie, urged parents to take a larger role in nurturing the talent of their children.
He advised the parents not to discourage students who appear to be artistic or have an interest in the performing arts.
This morning’s ceremony also heard brief remarks from the Principal of the Kingstown Preparatory School, Carol Ross.
Preliminary judging in this year’s Festival will take place over the next five weeks, ending on Wednesday 4th of March.
Two Grand Days are slated for March 10th and 11th to show case and record the highlights of the Schools’ performances in the preliminary round. These sessions will be held at the Methodist Church Hall commencing at 9:00 am on both days.
Over sixty schools are expected to be featured in this year’s Festival, which is being co-ordinated by the Ministry of Education and the Department of Culture.
