The Ministry of Health Wellness and the Environment has activated the mass casualty management plan to address casualties from a vehicular accident which took place in Owia earlier this morning.
A release from the Ministry says it has sent out ambulances from Kingstown and Georgetown with Nursing staff and emergency medical supplies, as well as staff from the Mental Health Centre at Orange Hill, to support the emergency management process.
The Ministry says it is also now managing patients currently being housed at the Owia Health Centre.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Simone Keizer-Beach says as part of the Mass Casualty Management Plan, the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital stands ready to manage cases, and the psycho social emergency team has also been activated.
She has emphasised further that the team is working hard and she is confident they would do all that is necessary to assist all affected persons.
The Ministry of Health has expressed gratitude to members of the public who have assisted so far, but it requested that the health care staff be allowed to properly care for the patients.
