West Indies opening batsman Barbadian, Kraigg Brathwaite scored 106, his 3rd Cricket Test hundred and middle-order batsman Marlon Samuels made 101 to steer West Indies past the follow-on mark before a familiar collapse revived the possibility of a South Africa win in the 2nd Test against South Africa at St. George’s Park in Port Elizabeth South Africa yesterday on the 4th Day of the 5-Day match.
Brathwaite and Samuels added 176 for the third wicket before West Indies let slip a position of apparent safety by losing seven wickets for 44 runs.
They trailed by 142 runs with one wicket in hand when rain intervened once again to end play one hour before the scheduled close.
They were then 275 for 9 in their first innings in reply to South Africa’s first innings score of 417 for 8 declared. So far, fast bowler Morne Morkel was the pick of South Africa’s bowlers with 4 for 69, while leg-spinner, Imran Tahir has 3 for 108.
