Local Police have been reminded of their responsibility to follow up on reports of domestic violence, and to take steps to prosecute the offenders, once the necessary investigations are completed.
The reminder came from Minister responsible for Gender Affairs, Frederick Stephenson this week.
Minister Stephenson gave the reminder, in a message to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which was observed on Tuesday November 25th.
He pointed out that the victims of domestic violence also have a responsibility to co-operate with the Police.
He noted that sometimes persons who inflict violence on their spouses and other family members may go unpunished, if the matter is not pursued.
