Government officials and Public Servants gathered in Georgetown yesterday to witness the official opening of the rehabilitated Basin Hole Bridge.
The Bridge, which was severely damaged during the floods of April 2011, was re-constructed with funding from the Government of the Republic of China on Taiwan and the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Speaking at yesterday’s ceremony, Chief Technical Officer in the Ministry of Transport and Works, Simon Bailey said the project has three main components: the Basin Hole Bridge and Road Re-Alignment, the River Re-Alignment and a River Gabion Basket Protection Wall.
Mr. Bailey said Franco Construction was awarded the Bridge and Road Re-Alignment contract, at a cost of 1.6-million dollars
He explained that several issues had to be considered, in reconstructing the bridge.
