Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has suggested that the cultivation of marijuana in the hills of Caribbean countries is causing the degradation of the forests.
The Prime Minister made the remark while delivering the feature address at the opening ceremony of the OECS Climate Change seminar which wraps up here today.
Dr Gonsalves told participants that there is a problem in the forest with two types of cultivation taking place in the hills.
The seminar is being held as part of the OECS/USAID project – a five-year developmental project launched in 2011 to assist OECS governments with building resilience through the implementation of climate change adaptation measures.
It is expected to wrap up with a Closing Press Conference at 4:30 this afternoon where the Media will be updated on the outcome of the Seminar and the way forward.
