Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Saboto Caesar, has highlighted the importance of maintaining a high level of vigilance at this country’s ports to protect the valuable agricultural sector.
He was speaking at the start of a recent seminar on the World Trade Organization (WTO) Sanitary and Phyto Sanitary Measures Agreement (SPS), which sets out the basic rules for food safety and animal and plant health standards.
Minister Caesar said it is important that persons adhere to the rules and guidelines that are in place at the ports, to avoid the introduction of deadly pests and diseases.
Minister Caesar said the government of Taiwan has provided significant assistance to this country in the area of plant and animal quarantine.
