There were victories for Hornets, Hawks, Titans, Duke, Rising Stars and East Blazers in Under-16 and First Division matches at the weekend in the Vita Malt Basketball Championship at the Clive Tannis Hard Court in Port Elizabeth.
Hornets defeated Rockets 28-21 in the Under-16 Division. The top scorer for Hornets was Kenus Tally with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist, Rodine Hazell was the leading scorer for Rockets with 9 points.
Tasroy McIntosh hit a game high 23 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals as Hawks edged out Titans 37-20. Augustine Pollard led the way for Titans with 7 points.
Hawks powered their way past Rockets 38-29. The leading scorer for Hawks was Tasroy McIntosh with 16 points, 5 steals and 4 rebounds and leading the way for Rockets was Reon Ollivierre with 13 points.
Titans sealed a 33-30 victory over Hornets Kelroy Durham led the way for Titans with 10 points, 15 rebounds. Hornets’ top scorer was Kenus Tally with 12 points.
And, Darren John hit a game high 22 points as Hawks outclassed Young Wizards 46-19 also in the Under-16 Division. The leading scorer for Young Wizards was Dario Barber with 7 points.
In the First Division, Duke had the better of Wizards beating them 75-59. The top scorer for Duke was Steveon Taylor with 26 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists and leading the way for Wizards Xavaugn Dennie with 21 points.
Rising Stars led by Tauran Ollivierre with a game high 20 points, 3 assists, 7 rebounds beat Warriaz 62-52. Warriaz top scorer was Jemuel Hutchins with 15 points.
And, East Blazers narrowly defeated Wizards 48-46. Cosmus Hackshaw was East Blazers top scorer with 17 points and 2 rebounds. Xavaughn Dennie led the way for Wizards with 15 points.
The Championship continues today, from 6 pm with the Under-16 semi-finals and at 8:30 pm, Duke will meet Wizards in the First Division.
