A call has been made here for greater emphasis to be placed on the teaching of history in schools, both at the primary and secondary levels.
The call was made last week by Gender Specialist and Lecturer at the Institute for Gender and Development Studies at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies, UWI, Dr. Halimah DeShong.
Dr. Deshong was delivering a lecture on the topic: The Coloniality of Everyday Violence.
The presentation was organized by the UWI Open Campus, to commemorate the 176th anniversary of the end of slavery in the English speaking Caribbean.
During her discourse, Dr. DeShong noted that there are many myths and mis-conceptions about the history of Caribbean people that need to be dispelled through accurate historical information.
