Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has given the assurance that the houses being constructed for persons whose homes have been damaged or destroyed by the floods of December 2013 will be able to withstand high winds associated with adverse weather events.
The Prime Minister gave the assurance as he delivered the feature address at the ceremony held in Hope Vermont yesterday, to mark the handover of three houses to affected persons.
Dr. Gonsalves noted that St. Vincent and the Grenadines is one of the most disaster-prone areas of the world and disaster mitigation and management is therefore an area of high priority.
The Prime Minister noted that the Government has also taken steps to ensure that strong modern facilities are available for use as Shelters in times of natural disaster.
