Three one day workshops on nutrition and meal planning for all School Feeding Staff in Primary and Special Needs Schools will be held here this week.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, will be collaborating with the Ministry of Education to host the sessions.
A release from the Ministry Health says the training will be carried out as part of a joint project involving the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and the School Nutrition Programme, with funding provided by the Mustique Charitable Trust.
The Ministry says the aim of the workshops is: to increase the knowledge and skills base of school feeding staff and school-based food vendors in primary and special education schools in the nutrition and food needs of school children.
It is also intended to help develop a pool of nutritionally sound and culturally appropriate menus for the School Feeding Programme, by geographical location.
The workshops are being coordinated by Chief Nutritionist in the Ministry of Health Andrea Robin, and School Feeding Programme coordinator, Vickliyn Job.
Over one hundred participants from the School Feeding Programme in primary schools all over St. Vincent and the Grenadines, schools for children with special needs and the foodservice staff at the Liberty Lodge Boys Training Centre are expected to benefit from the training.
