The local cooperative movement is said to have paved the way for the development of a range of services, with the aim of improving the quality of life for the poor and working class people.
That’s according to Former Treasurer of the General Employees Cooperative credit Union (GECCU), Aubrey Burgin, during the Views On Issues programme aired on NBC Radio on Sunday.
Mr. Burgin said the cooperative movement fostered a deeper appreciation of partnerships among workers.
And, Vice President of the Police Cooperative Credit Union, Collin May, said unlike other financial enterprises, cooperatives provide their memberships with a sense of ownership.
