The Ministry of Health Wellness and the Environment is urging members of the public to continue to take measures to protect themselves from the chikungunya virus which is affecting a number of persons, mainly on the grenadine island of Bequia.
The Ministry announced last week that there are now over 500 cases of the disease here.
Head of the National Surveillance Committee in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Rosmond Adams says some persons are still not convinced that the virus is spread by mosquitoes
Dr. Adams said those persons who suspect that they may be infected with the virus should also take precautions, to ensure that they do not pass it on, by exposing themselves to mosquitoes.
An outbreak of the chikungunya virus was officially declared here in April.
