St. Vincent and the Grenadines is now one step closer to the establishment of an efficient Biosafety Management System.
And to achieve this end, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment will host a workshop tomorrow Thursday, 24th July, at the National AIDS Secretariat Building at Largo Height, beginning at 9:00am.
The workshop will involve members of the National Steering Committee on the National Biosafety Project and will be facilitated by Dr Sylvester Lynch, co-ordinator of the project, and Rohan Mc Donald, a member of the National Steering Committee and biotechnologist at the Orange Hill Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory.
The workshop will prepare a working draft of a proposed Biosafety Administrative System and will be used for managing all activities relating to genetically modified organisms.
It will specifically address handling applications, decision-making, follow-up and enforcement, as well as putting mechanisms in place to facilitate public awareness, public education, and participation and access to information.
