St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be represented in five disciplines at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, July 23rd to August 4th.
The team will participate in Athletics, Swimming, Cycling, Table Tennis and Squash.
Tyrone James is Athletics Manager and Chester Morgan Coach. The team comprises Kineke Alexander, Courtney Williams, Courtney Bascombe, Brandon Valentine-Parris, Josh Hamilton, Reuberth Boyde, Delohnni Nicol-Samuel and Kimorie Shearman.
Kim Halbich will head the Swimming contingent. The Athletes are Adora Lawrence, Issy Shne Joachim, Storm Gooding, Nikolas Sylvester, Dillon Gooding, Storm Halbich and Kyle Dougan.
Cycling Official is Emerson Holder and Athletes are drawn from Cammie Adams and Hansel Orano Andrews.
Orville Haslam will head the Table Tennis team which includes Romano Spencer, Kavir Gaymes Jr., Javier De Shong, Shenica Unica Velox and Sean Stanley.
And, the Squash team is James Bentick Coach, Jason Doyle, Othniel Bailey, Kevin Hannaway and Jules Snagg.
Jacintha Ballantyne will be the Chef de Mission and General Team Manager, Stephen Joachim.
Looking at the Commonwealth Games’ squad, I am sure I counted over thirty in the party, why then was there less than half that on the opening parade. Also, Why can’t tourism spot these excellent opportunities to market SVG, all they had to do was to send a brief on SVG. “The diamonds on the flag represents the Gem of the Antilles, The country is made up of 32 Islands, including Bequia, Mustique, and Canouan among others”. etc. etc. I watched the entire opening ceremony live on TV, and did not see anything that would encourage anyone to visit us, but I can tell you a lot about some of the other very tiny countries.
