Twenty-seven houses have so far been handed over to residents who were impacted by the December 2013 floods under Government’s Rehabilitation Program.
Eight residents of Villa Point in South Rivers were the latest to receive keys to their new houses, at an official ceremony yesterday.
In his address, Director of the National Emergency Management Organization, Howie Prince said the houses were built to specification under the National Building Code.
He said the Government is committed to relocating persons to safer areas, which forms part of the Disaster Management Plan.
Meanwhile … Chairman of the Housing and Land Development Corporation, Berrisford Phillips says he is pleased with the remarkable progress being made in the Rehabilitation Program.
And … Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for South Rivers, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said the Government has been spending significant sums of money to rebuild houses for persons displaced by the Trough system.
