The New York based Dynamite Calypso Tent consisting of Vincentian Calypsonians living in North America delivered a well appreciated show at its preliminary judging night on Saturday June 7, 2014 at Café Omar in Brooklyn.
Twelve Calypsonians performed before the judges for a spot in the Semi Finals of the National Calypso Competition.
They are – Delano “Detector” Joseph with his song “Prove them wrong”. Vincent “Groovy D” Kennedy, with “You never know”, Denis Bowman “To build Airport”, Delanti “Singing Della” Isles with “Human Rights”, Jose Juan with “South East Burning”, Kenroy “Jakie” Jack with “Plant Fire, Errol “D Man Age” Rose with “Take back we country”. John “The Truth” Dougan with his “Key to success”, Earl “Exposer” Isle with “Yankie”, Carlos “Rejector” Providence with “No excess baggage”, Mervin “MC Bobb” Bob with “Go back in dey” and David “Chang I” Morgan with “Who is a friend”.
The performances were judged by Earl Paynter, Eustace Malloney, and Aubrey Gould, who traveled from St. Vincent and the Grenadines to New York for the event.
The fans were also entertained by guest artistes – Winston Soso, Scorcher, and Tropicana. Adding to the ambience of the event were MCs Hailes Castello and Bennett Straker, along with DJ Supa Eyes.
In addition to the judged performances, remarks were delivered by President of the Dynamite Calypso Tent, Ainsley Primus; Hon. Cecil McKie, Minister of Tourism, Sports, and Culture; and Ann Miller, President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Calypso Association.
