St. Vincent and the Grenadines secured the Men’s Open, Men’s Over-50, Men’s Over-40, Women’s Over-40 and Women’s Over-50 Titles, while British Virgin Islands took the Women’s Open and Men’s Over-60 Titles in the National Lotteries Authority OECS Squash Championship at the National Squash Center, Paul’s Avenue here.
In the Men’s Open, Vincentian Jules Snagg successfully defended his Title defeating coach James Bentick 11-2, 11-3, 11-2 and Othneil Bailey also of SVG took 3rd spot beating his teammate Kevin Hannaway in a grueling match 13-11, 11-6, 12-10, 13-11, 11-7.
Vincentian Jason Doyle took 5th spot, Dion Anselm of the British Virgin Islands 6th, Romario Constance and Eshwan Adams of SVG took the 7th and 8th spots respectively.
In the Women’s Open Final Carol Valle of the British Virgin Islands defeated Tessa Shallow of St. Vincent and the Grenadines 11-6, 11-4, 11-9. Alana McMaster (SVG) in her first OECS Tournament defeated Sofia Worede of BVI 11-4, 11-9, 11-7 to take 3rd place.
Vincentian Sherian Slater secured 2 titles in the Women’s Over-40 and Women’s 50 categories, Slater defeated Carol Valle of BVI in a very competitive match 7-11, 11-7, 10-12, 11-5, 11-8 and in the Women’s Over-40 finals, she defeated teammate Greta Primus 11-7, 13-11, 11-8. Primus secured the 2nd spot in the Women’s Over-40 defeating Carol Valle of BVI in another competitive match 8-11, 2-11, 11-9, 11-8, 12-10. Deidre Myers took 3rd spot in the Women’s Over-50 and 4th in the Women’s Over-40.
Men’s Over-40 title went to Vincentian James Bentick who was defending the title in 3 years in succession. He defeated Mike Adamson BVI 11-5, 11-5, 11-2. Third place went to Carlos Segovia of St Lucia.
Men’s over-50 title went to Vincentian Collin Alexander who defeated Telbert Samuel also of SVG 11-8, 7-11, 11-2, 11-7. Winston Findlay BVI secured 3rd place and took the Over-60 title defeating Keith Boyea (SVG) 11-8, 11-9, 11-5.
SVG dominated the Team Championship, SVG Men’s defeated St. Lucia and the BVI 4-LOVE, while SVG veteran’s team defeated BVI 3-2.
Only SVG fielded a Women’s team and they were declared the Championship.
33 participants from S. Lucia, the British Virgin, Dominica and host St. Vincent and the Grenadines participated in the 3-day Tournament at the weekend.
