An open forum on smoking tobacco and other products will be held tonight to observe World No Tobacco Day.
The event is being organized by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Medical Association, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO).
A release from the Medical Association says World No Tobacco Day is observed each year, on May 31st, as the World Health Organization and its partners highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocate for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.
According to the release, Tobacco kills nearly six million people each year, of which more than 600,000 are non-smokers dying from breathing second-hand smoke.
Tonight’s Forum will feature presentations by professionals both in and outside of the health field and there will also be a Panel Discussion.
It will take place at the Methodist Church Hall from 7:30pm tonight.
The public is being invited to attend and contribute to the discussion in order to raise awareness about the dangerous health effects of smoking and to join in the campaign against smoking.
