The Ministry of Transport and Works Brent Bailey has said that the Coastal Zone projects which are being undertaken across the country are very important as the country loses a significant amount of land to the sea every year.
Chief Engineer in the Ministry of Transport and Works, Brent Bailey tells NBC News, that a number of coastal communities are currently under threat from the sea and this situation needs to be addressed.
Mr. Bailey said data shows that the sea has reached up to thirty feet away from the main road in some cases.
Mr. Bailey said the country is losing close to ten feet of coastal lands to the sea every year and this is a serious issue which must be addressed.
He said in some cases where houses once were in the past is now Sea water.
The Chief Engineer is currently in Jamaica hold discussions with Consultants on the development of these Coastal Projects.
