The 2014 Fisherman’s Month of activities was officially launched here today, with Fisheries officials highlighting the importance of the fisheries sector to the national economy.
This year’s activities will be held under the theme: Fishing for today’s family creates a healthy society” and the slogan “fish to survive and thrive.”
Delivering remarks at the launch, Acting Chief Fisheries Officer Jennifer Cruickshank-Howard said, as part of preparations for this year’s events, fishermen were involved in a two day workshop to equip them with the skills to be more productive fishers.
And, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Raymond Ryan commended the Fisherman’s Day Committee and the Fisher Folk for hosting the activities over the years.
Mr. Ryan said the activities showcase the importance of the fishing industry to national economy.
The month of activities will culminate with the Fisherman’s Day Competition on Monday June 9th.
