Two schools here have received donations from the Commonwealth Caribbean Staff Network of the Commonwealth Secretariat in the UK, in the wake of the December 2013 Natural Disaster.
A release from the API says the Dubois and the Spring Village Government schools have received a donation of 200 school bags with stationery items for distribution to students in need.
The donations were made through efforts by JEMS YaCEDI in the UK which assisted in identifying the schools which would receive the support. The consignments were distributed through the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Red Cross Society.
The Agency was able to ship some 29 boxes of books and school materials, through donations from friends, and well-wishers including High Commissions from the region and publishers such as Scholastic Book Club.
The donation was made as part of the project “Operation Bookworm” which was launched in October 2010, by the Commonwealth Caribbean Staff.
It is aimed at providing a more varied range of reading materials to children and young people from low income communities of Caribbean countries affected by natural disaster.
Similar donations were made to St. Lucia and Dominica.
