Journalist Shanna Daniel of the Agency for Public Information is representing St. Vincent and the Grenadines at a two-day International Conference in Jamaica this weekend, to observe World Press Freedom Day.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO will host the Conference at the Jamaica Conference Centre in Kingston.
Secretary General for the National Commission for UNESCO Janiele Henry says World Press Freedom Day has been declared by UNESCO as a day to honour both freedom of expression and freedom of the press.
Ms. Henry says several issues will be explored at the Conference which will be held under the theme “Freedom of Expression: Early New Millennium Challenges”.
The UNESCO conference takes place today and tomorrow and is expected to attract a wide range of Media workers from inside and outside the region, as well as representatives from international organizations such as the Inter-American Press Association; Reporters Without Borders; the British Broadcasting Corporation; and the International Press Institute of Southern Africa.
World Press Freedom Day was first observed 12 years ago.
