Ms. Edwards said while the volcano has remain relatively quiet, it is still active.
The Seismic Research Centre in Collaboration with National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) is hosting a series of activities to observe the 35th anniversary of the eruption of the La Soufrierre volcano.
Speaking at a volcano contingency plan workshop today, Education officer of the seismic research centre at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus Stacy Edwards said the purpose of the week long activities is to maintain public awareness of the volcano.
She said educating students on geologic hazards is an effective way of transmitting the information.
