Efforts are being made to heighten public awareness about geological hazards as St. Vincent and the Grenadines observed the 35th anniversary of the 1979 eruption of the La Soufriere volcano on April 13th.
The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) is partnering with the Seismic Research Center of the University of the West Indies, the Soufriere Monitoring Unit and the SVG Red Cross Society.
Speaking on NBC’s Face to Face programme, Education Officer at the UWI Seismic Research Center, Stacey Edwards, said the UWI is pleased to be involved in this public awareness exercise.
Mrs. Edwards said this week’s activities will target students in the most vulnerable areas.
