Vincentians who intend to travel are being advised to take the necessary precautions to curtail the spread of the chikungunya disease.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines is among a growing list of countries in the Eastern Caribbean, with confirmed cases of chikungunya, a virus similar to dengue, transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Three cases of the disease were confirmed here last Wednesday and the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment said it is taking every precaution to limit the spread of the disease.
Chief Laboratory Technologist in the Ministry of Health, Claudette Laidlow-Williams said the Caribbean island of Antigua is among the latest countries to declare an outbreak of the disease.
Mrs. Laidlow-Williams is encouraging persons who travel to take the necessary precautions to curtail the spread of the disease.
