The Ministry of Health is continuing to monitor the spread of the Chikungunya viral disease in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
On Thursday, the Ministry declared an outbreak of the disease, after three cases were confirmed in the Grenadine Island of Bequia.
Speaking at the Media Conference, Medical Registrar within the Department of Primary Healthcare and the Environment, Dr. Franklyn James said that there are three phases of the disease.
Dr. James noted that most persons who contract the virus will recover quickly, but he said there is also a possibility that the symptoms may last for months.
Dr. James also said there are certain persons who would be at risk of developing serious problems if they contract the mosquito-borne virus.
