St. Vincent and the Grenadines is listed among the countries in the region to record cases of Chikunhunya.
The Ministry of health says that to date there have been three confirmed cases on the Grenadine Island of Bequia.
The confirmation was made from clinical specimens that were sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (ACRPHA) for testing. Of the four samples, three were confirmed.
The Ministry says that though the cases are few, these are of sufficient quantities to declare an outbreak of the vector borne disease.
The Minister of Health Clayton Burgin will hold a Media Conference this afternoon to address what the Ministry says is a public health issue of national importance.
The Media Conference takes place at the Ministry of Health Conference Room from two this afternoon.
