The St Vincent and the Grenadines Swimming Federation (SVGSF) in partnership with the Bank of Nova Scotia and LIME are pleased to present an update on recently completed activities and upcoming activities.
St Vincent and the Grenadines was represented by two clubs, Black Sands Swim Squad (BSSS) and Blue Marlins (BM) at the 15th annual RHAC Championships held in St Lucia April 10th to 13th, 2014. The RHAC Championships featured over 350 swimmers representing 14 swim clubs from five Caribbean countries. SVG produced its best ever results at a major swim meet.
Blacksands swimmers produced outstanding performances and were led by Nikolas Sylvester, Shane Cadogan, Shné Joachim, Alexander Joachim and Dillon Gooding.
Nikolas Sylvester, swimming in the boys 13 to 14 year-old age group, was the overall Champion in his age group. He won a total of 8 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. Nik broke five national St Lucia records, several of which had stood for more than ten years. He also place second in the Sprint challenge.
Shane Cadogan, swimming in the boys 11 to 12 year-old age group, was the overall Champion in his age group. He won a total of 3 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 6 bronze medals. Shane broke one national St Lucia record and one meet record.
Shné Joachim, swimming in the girls 13 to 14 age group, was the overall Champion in her age group. She won 6 Gold medals, 3 silvers and 3 bronze medals. She also won the overall female Sprint Challenge. Shné broke three St Lucia national records, including two records set ten years ago by St Lucia’s only female Olympic qualifier.
Alexander Joachim, swimming in the Boys 9 to 10 age group, placed second in the overall Championship in his age group. Alex won 3 Gold medals, 3 silvers and 7 bronze medals. He placed second in Boys 10 and Under Sprint Challenge. Alex broke the 200 Meter Butterfly record for his age group.
Black Sands other medal winners included Dillon Gooding with 2 silvers and a bronze (and he placed second in his age category championship); Jamie Joachim with a silver and a bronze medal; Cruz Halbich (silver medal); Kyle Dougan (silver medal) and Chavez Joseph (Bronze medal).
Black Sands won the Club Championship in the overall boys category.
The SVG Swimming Federation extends its congratulations to all swimmers who participated in the Meet and notes that almost all swimmers continued to show improvements in their times. Congratulations to the coaches who do an outstanding job with our young athletes.
