Lion District Governor Izett McCalla of Jamaica is scheduled to arrive here today to visit and conduct club audits for the local Lions and Leo Clubs.
A release from the Lions says the District Governor will pay a courtesy call to the Governor General, Sir Frederick Ballantyne, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and Minister of Social Development, Frederick Stephenson during his visit to the state.
The Governor’s visit coincides with the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Lionism in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The 50th Anniversary Programme will be launched at a News Conference tomorrow Monday April 14 at the Lions Den, Kingstown at 2:30 pm.
It will feature presentations from the Presidents of the 3 Lions Clubs here. Past Council Chair Lion Beverly Reddock will trace the origins of the movement in SVG, after which District Governor Izett will declare the anniversary’s launch.
The clubs in St. Vincent and the Grenadines are part of District 60 B which stretches from Jamaica and Cayman in the North to Grenada in the South. At present there are three Lions Clubs and two Clubs in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Currently, 4 Vincentian Lions from the Lions Club St. Vincent South and 1 Leo serve on the District Cabinet.
District Governor McCalla is scheduled to leave the state on Wednesday April 16th for Grenada.
