Minister of Tourism, Cecil McKie, has hailed the government’s foresight in putting the necessary mechanisms in place to mitigate the effects of natural disasters.
His commendation came during his contribution to last week’s debate on the 2014 Supplementary Estimates in the House of Assembly.
In tabling the bill, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said the Estimates have been crafted to provide for additional expenditure relating to the floods of December 2013.
Minister McKie said this country’s response to the recent disasters was greatly improved as a result of the government’s continued investment in disaster risk management and mitigation.
Minister McKie said a number of regional agencies have also recognized this country’s response to the challenges arising from the disaster.
