This country’s Law Enforcement sector is taking a step away from conventional prosecutions in an effort to target major drug lords.
Speaking to Nicola Suter, Financial Crimes advisor on Monday at the Civil Asset Advocacy Workshop said criminals can be smart hence the reason a legislation of this nature and for this purpose is necessary.
Ms. Suter said the Civil Recovery Asset which tackles the criminals via their finances and assets, a step away from conventional prosecution. She said this is not something that will be done instead of criminal
prosecution but a measure which will be used when someone cannot be prosecuted through conventional means.
She said that this legislation has proven to be hugely successful elsewhere in the world.
Ms. Suter said however that the chambers of the Attorney General will be liable to compensation in the event that they recovery any properties which were not acquired through any criminal offences.
