Windward Islands and West Indies off-spinner Shane Shillingford will play for the Windward Islands in their 4th round match of the WICB Regional 4-Day First Class match Championship against Jamaica starting tomorrow at Sabina Park in Kingston Jamaica after undergoing remedial work on his bowling action.
The 31-year-old Dominican Shillingford underwent remedial work in Barbados under the guidance of former Barbados and West Indies fast bowler Vasbert Drakes with input from West Indies Head Coach Ottis Gibson.
Shillingford also underwent a biomechanical bowling analysis conducted by a research team at the University of Western Australia in Perth on March 4th. He had been reported for a suspect action after the second Cricket Test last November in India.
The International Cricket Council, the Sport’s World Governing Body, then confirmed the illegality of the action after independent tests last December in Perth.
Shillingford has played 14 Tests for West Indies, taking 65 wickets at 32.32 each. He has never appeared in a One-Day or Twenty/20 International for the Regional side.
He has played 66 Regional First Class matches for the Windward Islands since his debut 13 years ago and has captured 289 wickets at 21.54 each. He requires 11 more wickets to become only the 2nd bowler to take 300 wickets in official Regional First Class Cricket which started in 1966.
