The Fisheries Division in the Ministry of Agriculture is continuing its program to develop the local fishing industry to through the use of the Fish Aggregation Devices or FADS.
FAD’s are man-made, floating or submerged devices, which are used for attracting and facilitating fish capture.
Acting Chief Fisheries Officer, Jennifer Cruickshank Howard said local Fisherfolk are continuing to see significant benefits from the FADS, which were deployed in the waters of St. Vincent and the Grenadines two years ago.
She gave this assessment, following a workshop which was held earlier this month to review the impact of the devices.
Mrs. Cruickshank-Howard said they held a number of successful training sessions with Fisherfolk from the Barrouallie Community earlier this month and they are preparing to hold similar programs with other people who are employed in the fishing industry.
